Not eligible for Free File or Direct File?
If you are not eligible for Free File or Direct File, you can still e-file your return. You may even qualify for other free options to prepare and e-file your basic federal and state income tax returns.

What's New
Taxpayer Assistance Program (TAP) for 2023
If your 2023 federal adjusted gross income (FAGI) was $79,000 or less, you qualify to receive free tax assistance from the Tax Department. We can help you prepare and e-file your 2023 federal and state income tax returns in person or virtually.

New York State and the IRS have developed an exciting new program that allows eligible New Yorkers to e-file their federal and state personal income tax returns for free.
